The spice originates from a flower called crocus sativus—commonly known as the “saffron crocus.” Saffron is extremely subtle and fragrant. The slightly sweet, luxurious taste is totally enigmatic.
Saffron is most costly spice in the world by weight. It is believed to be originated in Iran, however Greece and Mesopotamia has also been suggested as possible region for origin.
Saffron grows in the belt from Spain in west to Kashmir in east. Iran is the biggest producer of saffron.
